Quick post here as a question to anyone who is reading this:

Are there any good writing prompt communities out there? Or drawing/art prompt communities for that matter.

I realize that I do really well with prompts. It won't often occur to me to write or draw anything out of the blue, but I think it would be cool if I joined a community that provides prompts every so often. I'll keep looking, myself. I feel like it's been hard to find one that isn't fandom specific or just drabble prompts, but I haven't spent that much time looking yet. Just thought I'd ask. :>

If you find any good ones let me know. They're going to do one on the side7 forums next month but it's all unicorns, haha. I might join in anyway and see how it goes.

Side7 is kind of trying to come back from the dead so this is the first one. Hopefully there will be more and the forums will perk up a little. There are little stirrings of activity but nothing has seemed to stick yet (I keep forgetting to check in -_- I'm guessing everyone else is kind of in the same boat).

I will check out fandomweekly :D

Check out [community profile] fandomweekly. It's a "multifandom weekly fic challenge community where participants write a short story based on a prompt". If you don't want or need the accountability of writing together with others, you can check out [community profile] dailyprompt and [community profile] daily_prompt which are both inactive but can still be browsed. I haven't found active communities that aren't restricted to drabbles or aren't long challenges with specific deadlines.

Not a community, but a method:

1. grab a thesaurus or dictionary, open a random page,
2. close your eyes point somewhere on the page: this is your random word!

Write or art about that word. Or collect several words and use all of them.

(Or use a random word generator to get a random word, like this one: https://wordcounter.net/random-word-generator)

I used to do a lot of drabble writing using that method (true drabbles of exactly 100 words), and it was always inspiring and challenging.
